Dear Senator/Assembly Member: As a constituent in your district, I am writing to let you know I am opposed to S 29 Section 13a (7) of the Workers' Compensation Reform Law. (Section 25 (7) (A) of the Workers' Compensation Reform Bill S. 3322/A. 6163.) The issue is choice. Section 29 strips injured workers like me of the right to choose their own diagnostic medical testing providers. It gives insurance companies the power to control my healthcare and control the providers who can influence the results of tests performed on me, such as MRIs and X-rays. Injured workers will be forced to forfeit trusted relationships they have built with providers and facilities recommended by their physicians or chosen directly. Even worse, under the new system, I will be forced to accept the assigned testing providers who are unlikely to fairly represent my interests before a Workers' Compensation judge. Additionally, these assigned network providers could be prejudiced in favor of the Workers' Compensation insurance carrier due to economic relationships. Injured workers could be forced to go back to work while still injured and will use their private insurance to treat persistent work-related injuries. Their employer's and/or union's sponsored private health care cost will soar and the injured worker's co-payment and deductibles will increase. Please, do whatever you can to see this section of the law is amended to serve the interest of continuous healthcare and the injured workers, not the insurance carriers. Thank you for your time.
